2010 Chrysler 200c EV
The Chrysler 200C EV Concept not only is powered by an electric
drivetrain, but it is a rolling test bed for Chrysler’s future uconnect
in-car computer and communication device. It can connects directly to an
iPhone, allowing you to preprogram the temperature, lock the doors,
allow you to view an in-car camera remotely and track the car’s location
live via GPS – all straight from the iPhone. Chrysler 200C EV is slated
to become the definitive blend of design and technology while redefining
the idea of responsible mobility with a touch of class and
sophistication never before embodied so elegantly in one vehicle. This
can only happen, of course, if the 200C makes it out of the concept
arena and into production. Its extended-range electric drivetrain isn’t
ready for prime time, and its futuristic ultra-connected instrument
panel is intriguing, but largely hypothetical. Still, the clean, sleek
200C seems much more polished than the concept cars Chrysler has shown
in the past. In fact, the 200c could be what the next Chrysler 300
sedan, or its successor, will look like. Similar to its ‘rival’ Chevy
Volt, the 200C EV concept is an extended-range electric car with a small
gasoline engine that would not drive the wheels, but would provide power
to stretch the range of the electric motor. The 200c is part of Chrysler
special electric car division, ENVI. The four-passenger 200C EV is based
on a shortened version of the rear-drive, full-size car platform that
underpins the Chrysler 300C, Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger.
200c EV Power
The 200C EV is powered by a plug-in, range-extended
hybrid powertrain, similar in concept to the Chevy Volt. The Chrysler
system is said to develop a total of 268 hp. And the company says the
concept can go to 60 mph in 7 seconds, travel 40 miles in electric-only
mode and cruise for a total of 400 miles, thanks to that gasoline engine
acting as a generator. And it can be recharged using a 110-volt or
220-volt outlet. Underneath the hood, Chrysler says the 200C could use
either the ENVI EV extended range powertrain or the new Phoenix V6. The
concept is rear wheel drive, but they say it could easily be adapted to
a front wheel drive production car, which seems a more likely prospect.
Whether or not it’ll have an extended range EV powertrain remains to be
seen. Utilizing ENVI's Range-extended Electric Vehicle technology, the
Chrysler 200C EV concept boasts clean, quiet elegance and seamless
acceleration, underscoring the engaging driving experience of the
Chrysler brand. Capable of driving up to 40 miles on battery-only power
using zero gasoline and producing zero tailpipe emissions the 200C EV
uses a small gasoline engine and integrated electric generator that
produces electricity to extend the driving range to 400 miles.
Design of the Chrysler 200c EV
The 200c is sleek, elegant and devoid of any odd
styling quirks, and was a huge hit when it debuted at the Detroit Auto
show. A timeless beauty, the 200C combines the organic form and language
of Chrysler's deep design roots with the proportions of the Chrysler 300
to create a unique product statement that appeals to both luxury and
sports car enthusiasts. The distinct grille continues to shape and
evolve Chrysler's brand identity, with the front fascia as a modern
interpretation of the winged Chrysler badge. The headlamps and tail
lamps are treated as dramatic sculptural elements on the vehicle and
reinforce the organic form and function carried throughout the design
theme. The Chrysler 200C EV concept vehicle projects a confident stance
and proportion with its optimized wheel-to-body relationship.
Inside the 200c
Inside, the 200C is continues to use high technology;
its Uconnect features let users build a network of “buddy vehicles,”
whose locations could be tracked on a dashboard screen; Maximizing
interior comfort, utilizing space and creating a connected environment
were key objectives in creating the interior of the Chrysler 200C EV
concept vehicle. The interior of the Chrysler 200C EV concept vehicle
was created in Chrysler LLC's Advance Interior Design Studio. The
primary goal of this studio is to improve the quality and fit and finish
on all future Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles. By using
state-of-the-art design software and computer modeling processes,
interior designers can achieve quality and fit and finish objectives
faster than ever before. The Advance Interior Design Studio features a
dedicated, customer-focused, interior-centric team of designers and
engineers. Immediately noticeable upon entry is the large screen located
on the instrument panel. The compound touch surface is a touch screen
that serves as the hub for the vehicle's connectivity system a system
that offers endless avenues of communication and transforms the interior
into a portal to the outside world.
Conclusions
The 200C EV is more than just a concept. It may be a
close look at the next-generation Chrysler and Dodge large sedans due in
two years. Regardless of powertrain, this is one sharp-looking sedan. A
technologically advanced vehicle with all vehicle functions, settings
and uconnect features managed via a panoramic multimedia touch screen, a
passenger-dedicated 'techno-leaf' and a stow-able tablet PC. This
vehicle is future technology at its best. This performance sedan comes
in a package that looks spirited and agile.
